I know you’ll never be the boy
You always wanted to be
But every now and then
I know you’ll always be the only boy
Who wanted me the way that I am
- Total Eclipse of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler
For the second straight week, The Vampire Diaries writers are turning to the hits of the 1980′s for their episode titles. In this episode, almost everyone is nursing a broken heart. Caroline invites Katherine/Elena and Bonnie to Whitmore’s Bitter Heart Ball. Katherine makes plans for Stefan; Tyler finds solace in a bottle; Damon’s plan for revenge has an unexpected result.
As the episode opens, Katherine (Nina Dobrev) is at Whitmore, writing in her diary about how she loves her perfect life as Elena. She has everything she has ever wanted – youth, beauty, health, everyone loves her, and she’s a vampire. Katherine proceeds to delete all the pictures of Elena and Damon off of Elena’s phone, saying bye, bye worst decision Elena ever made. She replaces it with a picture of Stefan and makes plans to win him back.
In class, Caroline (Candice Accola) declares to Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Katherine that they are not to mope over boyfriends past but to start fresh as brave, free, and single. Katherine points out that Bonnie is not single. Caroline says that Bonnie can be their wing woman and pulls out a flyer for Whitmore’s Annual Bitter Ball – a celebration of broken hearts, jilted lovers, and bitter singles. (Sounds like an event for Grumpy Cat) and suggests they go as the jumping off point for their fresh start. Bonnie notices the girl sitting next to her levitating her pen. When she notices Bonnie watching her, she abruptly stops.
Meanwhile, when Stefan (Paul Wesley) arrives at the Salvatore house, he notices blood coming out of the trunk of Damon’s car. When he opens it, he sees Aaron’s (Shaun Sipo) lifeless body. Stefan enters a totally trashed house and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) acknowledges him by rolling off the couch and apologizing for the mess (love the tilted pictures on the walls!). Stefan confronts him about the car, and Damon explains that he decided to rip Aaron’s throat out and be done with getting rid of the last Whitmore. Stefan confronts him about going on a killing spree after Elena dumps him, when Enzo (Michael Malarkey) walks in. He says it was his idea and Stefan rebuffs him. Stefan asks Damon if they’re “murder buddies” again. Damon says they worked things out because after you spend 5 years with someone in a dungeon you form an unbreakable bond. Enzo asks Stefan if he has heard from Dr Wes Maxfield, who is next on their hit list. Stefan asks if Damon is going back to his psychotic, sadistic old self once they kill off the last Augustine. Damon replies that he likes that version of himself and was dumb to try to change just to get a girl. (Well, yeah) He tells Stefan to get another hobby besides trying to save him (Hmm, overtones of Klaus and Elijah). Stefan tells Damon he’s better than this, to which Damon responds that he’s better like this. Stefan shakes his head and leaves.
Back at Whitmore, Katherine calls Matt (Zach Roerig) at the Mystic Grill and asks for his opinion of what she will say to ask Stefan out (if it would sound like Elena). Once he says yes, it sounds like Elena, Nadia (Olga Fonda) takes the phone and compels him to forget what just happened and he goes back to tending the bar. She asks Katherine how much longer she has to wait around like a bar fly before they spend some time together. Katherine chides her about not enjoying being around Matt. Nadia defends him, saying she never compelled him, not even to sleep with her. She hangs up on Katherine.
Somewhere in rundown building lab, Dr Max Westfield (Rick Cosnett) has a hospital janitor, Joey (Christopher Marrone) chained up. Joey asks Max who he is and what Max did to him. Max introduces himself and tells Joey that he’s turned him into a vampire and will condition him to feed on other vampires instead of humans. He tells Joey he’s done it once, and now he has to replicate it. He also needs money, to which a female voice behind Max responds that she can help him with that. The woman introduces herself as Sloan (Caitlin McHugh) and tells Max she can help him with his research. He demands to know how she knows about it. Sloane tells Max she’s been tracking his Augustine experiments for months and she’ll give him money and protection in return for analyzing some blood she has (Stefan’s and Elena’s? Is she a Traveler?). When Max refuses her help, she gives him Aaron’s bag and tells Max his car was abandoned in the middle of the road last night. Max suggests he’s dead and Sloane agrees; she then tells Max that he is next.
Meanwhile, Enzo invites Damon to take a road trip to another country after they kill Max, but Damon tells him he’s not thinking that far ahead. They enter a cell where Diane (Sabrina Mayfield) the head of Whitmore security is chained up. They have kidnapped her from her office. Damon compels her to admit that she forged the suicide note to cover up the death of Whitmore student Megan (Refresher: Elena’s college roommate, and tied to the Augustines’). Damon asks her where Max is and she says she hasn’t seen him for days. Enzo then snaps her neck, calling her a dead end.
Stefan confronts Enzo burying Aaron’s body in the forest. He tells Enzo he needs to go find another buddy and leave Damon out of his game of blowing off some steam. Enzo calls him a do-gooder and Stefan counters that he is the balance that keeps someone from falling off the edge. Enzo asks him to take the leap and join them instead because he looks like he could use some fun. He offers Stefan a shovel.(Biiig mistake of course!). Stefan wacks Enzo in the leg, then jabs the handle into his chest. Enzo eggs him on to take his best shot and pushes back the shovel. Stefan jams the shovel (not handle) up against Enzo’s neck and tells him to get into his car and leave town. He warns Enzo that what he will do to him will be final and to be sure he doesn’t see him again. Enzo smiles.
Katherine meanwhile, buddies up with Caroline back at their dorm room. She asks Caroline’s opinion on earrings and Caroline shocks her by asking when does Elena accessorize and she’s not fooling anyone. Katherine thinks she knows she’s not Elena, but surprise, Caroline thinks Katherine is faking that everything is okay since her (Elena’s) breakup with Damon. Just then, Katherine sees Stefan is calling her. She asks Caroline if she should ask him to the Ball. Stefan says he has to talk to her in person about Enzo. This throws Katherine for a loop since she doesn’t know who Enzo is. (Oops). She does ask him to the Ball but he turns her down. She tries to convince him to go.
Back at the Mystic Falls Grill, Nadia is hanging out at the bar and gets a text from Katherine asking who Enzo is. Nadia has no idea and sees Tyler (Michael Trevino) walk up to the bar and order “something that will obliterate the memory of Caroline” (Wow. Tall order) from Matt. Tyler notices Nadia. Matt warns him that she’s psycho Katherine’s daughter who hasn’t fallen far from the tree (good one) to which Nadia acknowledges that she can hear them. Matt reminds her that she locked him in a safe and buried him in the woods. (Tyler’s eyes get huge!) Nadia tells Matt and Tyler she’s grieving the death of her mother and to leave her in peace. Tyler suggests they do shots. They take turns sharing “my mother was so bad she…” stories and the one with the worst story has to take a shot. Tyler excuses himself to go pee and asks Matt to pour them another round. He stays in earshot and hears Nadia compel Matt and he tells her Enzo is a buddy of Damon’s and former cell mate when they were held by the Augustines.
At Whitmore, Bonnie and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are discussing going to the Bitter Ball, and sharing a moment of happiness when Damon appears. Bonnie asks what he’s doing there and he says tutoring students. Then he drops the bombshell — he’s there to kidnap Jeremy. Damon tells Bonnie he has a hit list and can’t find his victim and he needs a witch. Bonnie reminds him he just said she can’t do magic and tells him to go away. Damon tells Bonnie that her Gram held occult classes so there must be witches around. He gives her a piece of cloth with Aaron’s blood on it and tells her that should be good for a locator spell. Jeremy tells Damon she’s not helping him. Bonnie says Elena would kill him. Enzo arrives on the scene. Bonnie asks who he is and Enzo says he gets people to do what they don’t want to and proceeds to crush Jeremy’s head. Bonnie gives in and says she’ll help.
Katherine and Caroline arrive at the Bitter Ball. Katherine receives a text from Nadia saying that Enzo was Damon’s cell mate and is dangerous. She then meets up with Stefan (looking very hot in a suit and tie!) and they dance. Stefan notes how good she appears to be doing and she responds that she is but no one seems to think she should be. Stefan tells her he needs to talk to her about Damon and what he’s got himself into. She says Damon changed her and she doesn’t like the person she’s become and asks Stefan if he likes her as she is or once was (Hahaha good little trick). He doesn’t want to answer her. They decide not to discuss what Enzo and Damon are up to. Caroline interrupts and takes Katherine away to the shredding station. (Oh this’ll be good).
Back at Mystic Grill, Tyler points out to Matt that Nadia took his vervain bracelet and compelled him to forgot she did. He asks Matt if he has any vervain and when Matt says yes, it’s in the coffee (clever), he tells Matt to drink some right away as they see Nadia come back into the bar.
At the ‘shredding station’ back at the Ball, Caroline takes printed pictures of her and Tyler and a drawing that Klaus did for her. She tells Katherine that she’s decided that both relationships are over and she won’t change her mind. Katherine asks her if she’s really talking about her. Caroline suggests that Katherine is an emotional roller coaster and making herself available to Stefan could be confusing things. Then she tells Katherine to forget what she said when Katherine asks her if she’s leading Stefan on. Katherine smiles, says okay and walks away.
Just then, Bonnie and Damon show up at the Ball together. Damon asks Bonnie where her witch friend is, and Bonnie points out one of the catering people, Liv (Penelope Mitchell) who is in her class (the pen spinning gal). Bonnie says she works for event catering and this is a total shot in the dark.
Meanwhile, Caroline bumps into Stefan and he turns down her offer to dance. He tells he didn’t come to dance so she asks him what’s up with him and Elena. He tells her that Damon has gone off the deep end and has killed Aaron. He wanted to tell her, but she seems so happy so he thought better of it. He thinks if she knows, she’ll give up on Damon forever and he won’t be able to pull Damon back. Damon walks up to them asking why all the dramatics. Stefan asks why he’s there and Damon says he and Bonnie is going to find him a witch to do a locator spell to find Wes so he can go kill him. Then Bonnie tells them that Enzo has Jeremy and if she doesn’t find Wes by midnight, Enzo will kill Jeremy. Stefan looks at the picture on Bonnie’s phone of Jeremy looking beat up. Just then, Katherine walks up and Stefan hands her the phone. She looks at the picture and acts all shocked and scared. When she turns her back to them, she rolls her eyes and looks annoyed. (Poor Katherine; something always getting in the way of her romancing Stefan).
Katherine calls Nadia and asks her if there would be a problem letting Jeremy die because it would solve a lot of her problems and evoke a lot of sympathy from Stefan (oh my god; she’s so shamelessly selfish and evil! ). Katherine admits knowing where Jeremy is and should she just go and save him. Nadia tells her that Elena would do anything to save her brother and asks if she really does know where he is. Katherine says he’s at the Whitmore house; she’s the only one who recognizes it because she’s the only one who has been to a tea party. Nadia tells her she better go save Jeremy or they will figure out she’s not Elena. Katherine asks Nadia to find out if Caroline has feelings for Stefan so she knows what she’s up against. (This entire scene was brilliant).
Outside the Grill, Nadia hangs up from her call with Katherine as Matt joins her. He asks who keeps calling her and she ignores him. Thinking she has compelled him, she grills Matt about whether or not Caroline has feelings for Stefan; if Caroline and Elena ever fought over him; Does he think Elena can win Stefan back? Matt answers he doesn’t know and asks why she’s asking about Elena. She tells him to forget the conversation and disappears. Matt shakes his head in confusion. Tyler joins Matt and asks him if he was right. Matt goes to tell him what happened when Nadia breaks Tyler’s neck. She says he’s not telling Tyler anything.
Back at the Ball, an emotional Katherine tells Stefan she can’t lose Jeremy again and asks for him to help get Jeremy back. Meanwhile, Bonnie finds Liv in a back room and asks for her help. Liv asks if she knows her; Bonnie says they are in Sociology class together and that her Gram used to teach Occult Studies at Whitmore. Liv shakes her head that she never heard of her or the class. Bonnie confronts her about being a witch. She grabs Liv and tells her she really needs her help and Liv says that even if she wanted to, she can’t; she’s just a freak. She walks away and Caroline, bearing her fangs, stops her. Liv asks what she is and Caroline says she will help Bonnie and or does she need to say it slower (Hahaha, a blond telling a blond!).
In a room at Ball, Bonnie and Liv are seated around a map, with dirt or something laid out on it. Bonnie is instructing Liv in the locator spell under the watchful eye of an impatient Damon. Caroline is also observing. A scared Liv can’t believe vampires are real and Bonnie tells her to forget all that and to focus on her breathing and to repeat the chant after her. She tells her to use the blood on the scrap of Aaron’s clothing that Damon supplied, to find Wes. As Liv chants, a strong wind starts to blow through the room, the candles’ flames grow bigger, the light bulbs burst and the chandelier falls down. Damon asks if that’s a good sign and Liv panics. She says she can’t do it. She says she’s done horrible things. She can’t control her power; she’s hurt people and burned buildings. She tells Bonnie she’s a freak. Just then, Damon’s phone rings and he answers “Witchy Hotline. How may I help you? Damon speaking” (A good voice mail outgoing message!). Enzo asks what’s taking so long. Damon says they’ve lost motivation and asks Enzo to inspire them. He puts Enzo on speaker and he says that Jeremy will be dead very soon. Caroline blasts Damon and tells him to call Enzo back and stop him. Damon replies that cooperation is not optional.
Meanwhile, Enzo grabs a fireplace poker and approaches Jeremy who is tied up in a chair. He tells Enzo that killing him won’t inspire Bonnie. Enzo tells him he’s right, that she’ll think he’s a clique murderer. But he does like to leave a good impression. He picks up a plastic bag and tells Jeremy that no one takes you seriously if you don’t follow through on threats. He places it over Jeremy’s head and suffocates him. (But did he really kill him?)
Bonnie tells Liv that she has experienced the same things and she can teach her how to control her power. She shows Liv a picture of Jeremy on her phone and tells her that his life is in her hands. Liv agrees to try the locator spell again but if she burns the school down, it will be on Bonnie’s hands.
Enzo is body slammed to the wall by Stefan, as Katherine rushes to Jeremy who is on the floor, and takes the plastic bag off his head. Katherine exclaims “ewww” as she attempts to give Jeremy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while Stefan and Enzo have a body slamming contest behind her. (How does one concentrate with mirrors being smashed and bodies flying across the room?). Katherine then starts pounding on Jeremy’s chest telling him angrily to wake up as Stefan tries unsuccessfully to stab a crawling Enzo with the fireplace poker. (Hilarious! This scene is like a bad comedy). Jeremy draws a breath and comes back to life. Enzo throws something wood at Katherine’s back and Stefan pulls it out. Damon arrives and tells Enzo (who is now remarkably on his feet, unhurt) that Wes is in Richmond. As they leave, Stefan tells Damon not to bother coming back. Damon says he wasn’t planning on it. Katherine secretly smiles.
Tyler wakes up and asks Matt where Nadia is. Matt says it was a misunderstanding; she only wanted to talk about Katherine and knew he was mad at her, so she had to compel him. He said she believed Tyler would go after her if he knew she was “frying his mind”.
Tyler doesn’t really believe him but warns him to stay away from Nadia. Matt shows him his vervain bracelet (probably isn’t one) and to call Tyler if she hassles him. When Tyler leaves, Matt gets into Nadia’s vehicle with her. He tells her he took care of it. She warns him if Tyler follows them, she will kill them both. He confronts her about whoever is calling her looking for information. She says he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He reminds her about McGregor being implanted in his brain and suspects that Katherine didn’t die and jumped inside Elena. Nadia grabs him and threatens to take off his life ring. She says the vervain has to come out of his system and then she’ll decide what to do with him.
Enzo and Damon find their way to Max’s lab. Damon says Enzo can kill Wes and Enzo questions if Damon didn’t want to leave home. Damon says he was only there for Elena and she’s done with him and so is Stefan. They are suddenly surrounded by a group of chanting Travelers that includes Sloane (surprise, surprise). Damon asks who they are and Wes appears behind him and says his back-up. As they collapse holding their heads in pain, Wes injects Damon and now he will feed on other vamps.
Meanwhile, Stefan asks Katherine if she’s all right and she asks him to remove a splinter from her back. As he does, she says she knows he wanted to tell her Damon killed Aaron. She said she was able to get over the threshold of the Whitmore house and she couldn’t have done that unless the owner (Aaron) was dead. He apologizes for not telling her and she asks him why he didn’t. He says that ever since she was with Damon, he’s been waiting for him to screw up badly. But whenever Stefan thinks Damon has gone too far, Damon’s been there for her, better than he ever was. He eventually stopped waiting for Damon to fail because he liked the person he’d become and he doesn’t want to lose that person. Katherine reminds him that Damon threatened Jeremy and she can’t go back to that. However, if Stefan wants to save Damon, she will help him. But she will only do it for him (yeah, right). As they embrace, Caroline walks into the room and they part. Stefan looks very uncomfortable. (What’s going on with him?)
Damon and Enzo wake up in the lab. Enzo asks Damon what Max stuck him with and Damon replies he doesn’t know but if he stuck him with the vampire poison, they have a problem. Enzo asks what kind of problem and Damon tells him about Wes’ plan to have vampires feed on each other. They hear something and discover Joey chained up in another part of the lab. Joey asks to be let go and Damon unchains him. But then Damon starts to change and Joey asks what’s going on with him. Damon replies that karma is happening and he attacks Joey. Enzo pleads for him to stop and when he does, Joey’s head lands separately from his body onto the floor. (He bit him rather hard!). Enzo looks at Damon and admits that this will be a problem. (Quite! You’re next!).
This was quite an episode. Katherine is really working her charm on Stefan, Damon has turned into the ultimate ripper and Stefan is feeling all kinds of regret about Damon. It’ll be interesting to see what Nadia does with Matt. But doesn’t Matt hold the key to Elena’s survival? Nadia gave him the knife that killed McGregory inside Matt. Wouldn’t that work the same way on Katherine? And why hasn’t Bonnie still not realized that Katherine didn’t pass through her and isn’t dead? Will Liv become Bonnie’s new best friend? Will she take Bonnie’s place as resident witch? Will Damon survive Max’s injection and plan? Why are the Travelers interested in Max’s research? Whose blood does Sloane want analyzed? Is it Stefan’s and Elena’s that they took when they were holed up in that Traveler shack? What is there scheme?

“Delaying death is one of my favorite hobbies” – Rick Riordan, The Mark of Athena
The 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries started out with a bang but limped over the finish line. Katherine is dying and everyone gathers to reminisce about her affect on their lives. Nadia hatches a plot to save Katherine. Elena and Damon try to deal with their break-up. Caroline has a surprise encounter in the woods.
The episode opens in 1492 in Bulgaria. A pregnant 17-year-old Katherine (Nina Dobrev) goes into labor in her home. The scene then cuts to present day Katherine, who is in the hospital after suffering a heart attack and the staff is trying to resuscitate her. Cut back to 1492 where her mother is coaching her and Katherine gives birth to a girl. But her father won’t let her hold her daughter, saying she has shamed the family, and walks out the door with her baby. Katherine pleads with him as he leaves, and then cries hysterically to her mother. Her mother tells Katherine it is for the best.
In the hospital waiting room, Nadia (Olga Fonda) finds Stefan (Paul Wesley), who tells her that Katherine has had a heart attack. She responds that Katherine Pierce will not die from it. Cut to Katherine, where the repeated attempts to restart her heart are successful. Stefan tells Nadia that the doctors say she is in organ failure and won’t last the rest of the day. He says he’s compelled the doctors to let him to take her home.
Back at the Salvatore house, Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in bed staring miserably at her alarm clock and pulls the covers over her head. Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) burst in with a huge “break-up breakfast” tray (Enough for a horse!) and try to get Elena to get up. Bonnie wonders why Elena is giving up on Damon and Caroline fires back because Damon said it himself — he’s bad for her — and quotes the entire break-up speech. Elena admits she must face reality about Damon, that when he’s made his mind up, that’s it. She then gets a call from Stefan.
Damon (Ian Somerhalder) meanwhile, is seemingly passed out with his head on the bar at the Mystic Grill with a bourbon bottle and glass near by. Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) walk in to find him, and wonder aloud why Damon broke up with Elena. Damon responds by “waking up” and pouring himself a glass while telling Matt and Jeremy he heard them (uh-huh!). When Matt asks if it was just a fight they had, Damon receives a call from Stefan.
In the living room, Damon is pouring shots of bourbon into several glasses, explaining the rules of his drinking game to Matt and Jeremy. Rule Number 1 is to talk about the worse thing Katherine Pierce has done to you (and take a shot); Rule Number 2 is to think of something worse (and take a shot); and Rule Number 3 is to repeat Rules 1 & 2 (and take a shot). Damon goes first, then Matt who says Katherine killed his sister Jenna (he couldn’t can’t think of anything at first — really?), and then Jeremy says Katherine had Silas kill him. Damon then has them take a fourth shot of bourbon after they’re done. (Everyone will be wasted in short order at this rate!). Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie enter the room where Elena announces that if anyone is going to be drinking to Katherine’s last days, it will be her, and throws back a shot. (You go, girl! Damon’s face is priceless). Then Bonnie and Caroline join in with their “reminiscing” of Katherine, quickly finishing off the first bottle of bourbon. Matt volunteers to go to the basement to get more.
Upstairs, Katherine is in bed with Stefan at the bedside. She realizes that what they are doing downstairs, but Stefan calls it reminiscing. Katherine insists she’s wrinkling and asks Stefan to kill her if she starts sagging anywhere. Stefan takes her hand in his and strokes it, saying she’s vain even on her deathbed. She asks him why he’s being so nice and he says because she’s dying, he thinks he stir up some compassion. (Face it, he’s got feeling still or is he really that nice?).
In the basement, Matt selects a bottle of bourbon and turns to find Nadia. He says her name as a question and she tells him to be quiet. She gives him a right hook to the face and promptly knocks him out.
Back upstairs, everyone is getting drunk, Stefan walks in tells them to knock it off and accuses them of being insensitive. Damon responds that a frail Katherine shouldn’t cloud Stefan’s memories of the psycho that she is, and offers him a shot of bourbon. Stefan recounts how Katherine in 1694 compelled him to love her, seduced Damon and made them both vampires, and then started a war with the town that got them killed. Then Stefan points out that Katherine was an innocent shunned by her family and for 500 years
she lied and manipulated her way to survive. He says that’s who he would drink to today; to Katherine the survivor. And he drinks the shot. Damon accuses him of being brainwashed by one night with Katherine, to which Elena is shocked to hear. Caroline blurts out that she forgot to tell her because Elena was kidnapped at that time.
Stefan volunteers to get another bottle, but Damon gets up and greets Nadia (“the Devil’s spawn”- That’s accurate!) as she enters the room. Damon asks Caroline if she told Elena that one to which Caroline responds with a hand slap to her head, and Elena downs another shot. Nadia says she has found a way to save her mother, Katherine, and needs their help. Damon says no, and warns Stefan not to or he’ll kick him to Kentucky. He warns off everyone else from volunteering as well. Nadia says she has buried Matt on the Salvatore property without his ring (she shows everyone the ring) in the safe that Stefan almost drowned in last summer.
Nadia, with Stefan and Elena, pull up to a boarded up house out in the woods. Elena demands to know where Matt is, to which Nadia replies that she’ll tell them once they help Nadia get what she needs – a Traveler. She tells them that Katherine was born a Traveler and can be a passenger inside someone else’s body if a Traveler teaches her how to do it. Elena asks why Nadia wants to save her mother who killed her boyfriend (who was a passenger inside of Matt). Stefan says because MacGregor (the boyfriend) tried to kill Katherine. Nadia explains that she is going to make Katherine a passenger in her body.
Out on the property, Caroline, Jeremy and Bonnie search for where Matt might be buried. Jeremy talks about making bad choices in relationships and Bonnie takes offense, to which Jeremy’s answer makes Caroline realize they are a couple and asks Bonnie why she didn’t tell her since she is her best friend. Bonnie takes offense to that. She and Jeremy tell her that Elena doesn’t know. Caroline bemoans the fact why she isn’t having scandalous sex like everyone else. An uncomfortable Jeremy suggests they split up to find Matt and they leave Caroline by herself.
Katherine dreams about 1492 again. She enters her home to find her entire family murdered. Damon appears in the dream and Katherine tells him to get out of her head. He recounts how she ran when Klaus wanted to make her a blood sacrifice and when she returned, she found he had massacred her family. He says she is responsible for her family’s deaths. She fiercely disagrees and cries over the body of her dead mother. Meanwhile, Damon is about to smother her with a pillow over her face and Sheriff Liz Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) enters the room and tells him to put it down. (Can you blame him?) Liz tells him if he doesn’t, she’ll have to charge him with murder, lock him up, and do a lot of paperwork (hilarious!). Damon says everything wrong he’s every done is linked to Katherine and she’s ruined him. Liz takes away the pillow from him and tells Damon that Katherine still has power over him but needs to prove Katherine wrong.
In the woods, Caroline is calling out for Matt when she is surprised by Klaus (Joseph Morgan).
Inside the run down Travelers’ house, Stefan and Elena find out they have been tricked by Nadia. She introduces them to Mia, a Traveler whose services Nadia bought in exchange for giving Mia doppelgangers — Stefan and Elena. She says she has no idea why they wanted doppelgangers and she and Mia immediately leave the house together. Elena tries to go outside but is burned by the sunlight. Their rings have been compromised so they can’t leave. Several Travelers approach and surround Stefan and Elena, chanting something.
Meanwhile, Caroline and Klaus play tag in the woods. She confronts Klaus about being there to pay his respects to Katherine. She says he’s only there to gloat over 500 years of revenge. Klaus confronts her about Tyler; that he heard she and Tyler broke up (he smiles so devilishly as he says this). Caroline says he gave Tyler a choice: her or his revenge plans and he chose his revenge. She suggests to Klaus he learn from that and let Katherine die in peace.
Back at the house, Sherriff Liz has brought Katherine several syringes of sedative from the hospital to ease her pain, but she refuses them. Katherine says they will make her weak and more susceptible to Damon (who is at her bedside) getting into her head. Katherine tells Liz that it was her fault that Elena and Damon broke up and Damon responds by injecting her with one of the sedatives to shut her up for awhile. Katherine dreams about riding in a carriage with her friend Emily, through Mystic Falls in 1864. They are on their way to the Lockwood Plantation when they come across another horse drawn carriage with a broken wheel. Their driver stops to assist the young man, who turns out to be Stefan. Katherine immediately is attracted to him and wonders if his family would take her in as she is “a poor orphan girl”. She wakes up and Damon asks her what that was about and she responds that’s the real story about how she met Stefan. She doesn’t want to believe in the prophesy of the doppelgangers but she said she can’t explain how she felt it was fate when she first laid eyes on Stefan.
At the Travelers’ house, one of the Travelers places two buckets at their feet. He attempts to cut Elena’s arm but Stefan tries to stop him. Elena says it’s okay; he probably wants doppelganger blood. They are both cut and their blood drains into the buckets. Elena asks Stefan why they aren’t healing (Because they want two buckets full of their blood?).
Back in the woods, Caroline continues to look for Matt. Klaus appears again, and asks her if she would give him the same choice she gave Tyler — to choose her or his revenge on Katherine. Caroline says he can’t just distract her while she’s looking for Matt (She almost looks like she’s trying not to laugh). Klaus says he’s heard Matt’s screams and Matt will be quite happy with his rescuer. Somewhere in the woods, Matt opens up the safe and climbs out. He looks around and finds a smiling Rebekah waiting for him. “I’m gone three months and look at the trouble you’ve got yourself in,” she says to him.
Damon sedates Katherine and she hallucinates about Jenna Sommers (Sara Canning) stabbing her in the stomach and John Gilbert (David Anders) cutting off her fingers (acts that she had done to them).Elijah (Daniel Gillies) seemingly comes to her rescue but as she touches his face affectionately, he turns into Damon (Cruel joke!). Just as Damon tells her that no one is coming to see her because no one cares, Nadia breaks Damon’s neck. (Ouch!). Nadia asks Mia to come into the room and to “get on with it”. (Transfer of Katherine’s soul into her? Not so fast…).
At the Travelers’ house, Stefan is thankful he’s not claustrophobic anymore, and Elena realizes that Katherine helped Stefan get over it and Stefan confirms it. He admits he just can’t hate her even though he should; he just wants her to find peace. Stefan tells Elena not to give up on Damon, like she never gave up on him. Damon just hates himself and all what he’s done. Stefan looks at his arm and it starts to heal. Elena wonders if all they wanted from them was a bucket of blood. She places her hand in the sunlight from the window and it doesn’t burn, so they both take the opportunity to escape.
Damon lies unconscious on the bedroom floor while Nadia asks Katherine to repeat the spell so she understands how the Passenger works. Once she does, Nadia explains that Mia will activate it by calling her forth and Katherine will live. But Katherine refuses to do so and asks Mia to leave them alone. She tells Nadia she regrets that she didn’t fight harder to keep her when her father took Nadia from her. Katherine says she’s spent 500 years not making the same mistakes and in the end, she’s had a long full life which included getting to know her daughter. She hands Nadia a syringe and tells her not to waste another minute on her, that it’s her turn to live. She wants to do the right thing as she’s been selfish all her life. Nadia refuses and tells Katherine to go ahead and leave her, that she won’t sit beside her and watch her die. An upset Nadia stalks out of the room and Katherine injects herself. (Does she really want to die?)
Back to the woods…Klaus says now that the quarterback has been saved (sort of like, “save the cheerleader” in Heroes?) he will leave Mystic Falls minus the gloating over Katherine’s corpse in return for a favor. He said he wants Caroline’s confession about him. Caroline looks at him sort of knowing; sort of confused. Klaus says when he leaves he won’t be coming back and Caroline will no longer have to cover their connection with hostility and revulsion. She won’t have to cover the dark part of herself that likes him despite what he has done. And she’ll be free. Caroline responds that she is in college; she has a future; she has plans and none of which include him. She admits that she uses hostility to cover her true feelings for him but if he promises to walk away and never come back, she will be honest with him about what she wants (Ohhh this is getting good). Klaus promises he will do just that. Caroline replies “good” and then goes in for a kiss. They part and smile at each other before making out up against a tree. (Can we say, hot scene?).
Meanwhile, Damon wakes up from Nadia’s attack as Stefan walks in. Stefan asks what happened and Damon says it was a shocking twist (typical Damon humor!) from Nadia. He tells Stefan Katherine’s all his; that he’s had his fun messing with her mind all day. He needed an outlet after a rough couple a days. He leaves and Stefan sits at her bedside. He says he came to say goodbye and asks her to close her eyes. Katherine goes back to the 1492 memory of her family massacre. Stefan asks her why she comes back to this memory. She says it was the worst day of her life, that it was her fault and she deserved everything that happened to her; she doesn’t deserve to be loved. Stefan asks her to open her mind to him. He asks her look at each family member, and Stefan makes them disappear. Katherine asks what he’s doing and he said she deserves peace. He tells her she was just a 17 year old girl and none of it was her fault. She hears her baby’s cries in the room and picks her up out of her cradle and holds her in her arms. In the present, Stefan kisses a sleeping Katherine on the forehead and tells her goodbye. Elena is in the room and asks if she’s gone but Stefan tells her not yet; but because of the drugs, she won’t wake up again.
Sitting outside the house, Damon and Stefan share a drink. Stefan tells Damon that he needs to work things out with Elena, that she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Damon responds he knows that and he can’t live without her. However, he thinks she’ll be better off without him because he’s no better than Katherine. Stefan looks at him like he’s nuts. Damon says he’s being selfless. He asks why can’t he have a selfless moment like Katherine did. He tells Stefan that he’ll remind him that it’s his fault if the universe isn’t happy the doppelgangers aren’t together.
Back inside the Salvatore house, Bonnie, Jeremy and Matt are in the living room when Caroline walks in, looking a bit disheveled in a sweat jacket (different from what she had on earlier in the day!) and pulls a leaf out of her hair (hilarious!). Matt asks her where she’s been and she says she got lost in the woods and zips up her sweat jacket higher. She sits down and asks what they’re doing and Jeremy says they’re waiting for Katherine to die. Matt asks Bonnie if she’ll feel Katherine when she dies and Bonnie says probably since Katherine is human. Matt asks her who else she sees on the other side, like anyone he knows. She says she sees Grams, and the other witches and Vicki but she doesn’t really like to talk about it. A female voice behind her says, “because it’s depressing as hell.” It’s Vicki (Kayla Ewell) and Bonnie tells Matt that she says she loves him. Vicki also says she watches over him and “to stop knocking around with the blond Original chick who almost got him killed.” (hilarious). Tyler (Michael Trevino) arrives and says Rebekah told him to tell Matt that he was her parting gift. He looks at an uncomfortable Caroline who acknowledges him back. A happy Matt gives Tyler a bear hug.
Stefan walks in and asks if they really went through four bottles of bourbon (Really? That’s all?). A male voice says. “Someone tell these idiots to lay off the booze.” Bonnie turns around and smiles as Jeremy looks over his shoulder and exclaims, “Alaric?” Jeremy tells Alaric (Matthew Davis) he thought he left them to go find peace. He says he wouldn’t leave Damon in charge. Damon looks around and asks if he’s talking about him, which Jeremy confirms. Damon holds up his glass and says cheers. Alaric responds with same. Just then, Bonnie looks across the room and says Katherine is here. Damon asks if “ding dong the witch is dead (funny boy)”. Katherine looks at Bonnie and says it’s too soon, she can’t leave yet.
Katherine then wakes up in her bed with Elena at her side. Elena exclaims that Katherine really doesn’t want to die and swore she heard Katherine’s heart stop. Katherine asks where she is, and Elena tells her she’s still alive. Katherine says she still has unfinished business to which Elena responds that she does too. She tells Katherine that she forgives her; that because Katherine lost everyone in her life and having no family to take care of her, she became evil. Elena doesn’t believe Katherine was born that way. She feels they are similar in ways. Katherine asks Elena if she can help her out and give her the last syringe. As Elena goes to inject her, Katherine thanks Elena for her forgiveness. As Elena begins to inject her, Katherine grabs her and chants the Traveler spell and Elena passes out. She wakes up to answer her cell phone. Mia who is riding with Nadia in her car, says one word and activates Katherine inside Elena. Nadia asks her if it worked and Elena checks Katherine’s body for a pulse (there is none) and says of course it worked, she’s Katherine Pierce (still vain!). She tells Nadia she’ll see her soon. Elena/Katherine checks herself out in the mirror and practices being Elena.
That was quite the episode, although a bit underwhelming in parts and seemed forced in others. It left more questions than answers. Now begs the question if Katherine and Elena will be as one for a while. Will everyone figure out what has happened? Why is Katherine like Teflon and not die? Why would Rebekah take Tyler out of his prison in The Garden in New Orleans and bring him back to Mystic Falls? Why is Klaus back chasing Caroline when there’s so much happening in New Orleans right now? Why did the Travelers collect Stefan and Elena’s blood? What will they do with it or has it to do with Katherine? How will Caroline deal with Tyler and vise versa now he’s back?
What did you think of this week’s 100th episode? Did it live up to your expectations?

Kat Graham will be walking down the aisle any day now!
The gorgeous Vampire Diaries star is opening up to us about planning her wedding to fiancé Cottrell Guidry and says the big ceremony is happening very soon.
“I planned the wedding,” the 24-year-old actress and singer told us exclusively at last night’s Universal Music Group Post-Grammy Party in L.A. ” [It went] really good. We’re like done.”
“We’re basically done,” she continued. “We just did everything in two weeks. I’m low maintenance. I’m like, ‘That’s looks cute! Why not? That’s great!’”
Graham said the wedding planning was completely stress-free. “Not a bridezilla at all,” she smiled. “After all these events, the last thing I want to be crazy about is my own wedding. I’m like, ‘No, it’s going to be my day. Chill.’ I know what I want and that makes it a lot easier.”
As for when the nuptials are taking place? She revealed, “Pretty soon. Next time you see me I might be a married woman. Any day now.”
Back in November, Graham told E! News of her man, “My fiancé is easy-going like me. We like the same things. We’re just a couple of California beach bums.”
Graham and Guidry got engaged back in October 2012.
So excited for the happy couple!
Over 2500+ HD screencaptures of last night’s “500 Years of Solitude”, aka TVD #100, were added to the gallery. Click the thumbnails to view the entire album! Enjoy them but please PLEASE credit if you use them! It is VERY time consuming to cap, sort, upload and add screencaptures to the gallery (which explains why I haven’t been doing them in a long while because of lack of time).
(SPOILERS) THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: The Cast (Past and Present) Offer Wild Speculations and Teasers for Tonight’s 100th Episode
THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS, DO NOT READ ANY FARTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!
Hitting its milestone 100th episode mark, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES has a lot to celebrate, which they did in fine fashion last November at an exclusive party in Atlanta. From the red carpet, the cast offered their candid speculations on who they would like to see revisit Mystic Falls, which character death hit them the hardest and maybe a teaser or two about what is upcoming in their epic 100th episode.
What can you tease about the 100th episode?
JULIE PLEC: I can tease some nostalgia. I can tease a good game-changing twists and turns. I can tease good sexy romance, a surprise hook-up, and some big tears. When you’re growing up and moving on from high school and moving out, the way you feel about certain people changes. Things change. You can make some bad choices; you can make some good choices; you can make some choices that are not in your best interest. We like to explore those relationship dynamics.
PAUL WESLEY: There’s a reunion. There’s a really beautiful reunion. Bring your tissue box.
CANDICE ACCOLA: We’re going to get to the root of everyone’s problem, which is really Katherine. She turned the Salvatore brothers into vampires; she turned Caroline into a vampire. She’s just basically caused all the ruckus in all the characters’ lives. So we’re going to have a nice episode about who this woman is and why everyone hates her so much. Is death too good for her? It might be.

Brace yourselves, “The Vampire Diaries” fans. When the 100th episode airs this Thursday (Jan. 23), Kat Graham knows that fans are going to go crazy over certain shocking moments — and she’s not exaggerating.
When Zap2it sat down with the resident witch of Mystic Falls turned supernatural anchor to The Other Side on set in Atlanta, Graham could barely contain her excitement over wanting to know how the fans are going to react to the milestone episode.
“I definitely think the fans are going to lose their minds,” Graham tells Zap2it. “I think the fans are going to be in ecstasy when they watch it, and I don’t think I’ve ever used that word. There are some things that happen in the 100th episode that are going to make a couple people stand on their couches and scream at their TV, ‘Yes, yes, yes!’ That’s how I’ll explain the 100th episode. I’m like, ‘We’re doing what, they’re letting who do who? What, what?’ So it’s great. It’s exciting. It’s a celebration, definitely.”
And speaking of celebrations, Graham was also excited about the 100th episode wrap party later that weekend. “This is such a crazy experience. Even this party, I though it was going to be just a little party but this is exciting,” Graham says. “It definitely feels great that Warner Brothers and The CW are as excited for this moment as we are. Because we shoot in Georgia we’re separated from the rest of the world, so for everyone to come down here and share this moment with us is such a beautiful feeling.”
